Phan & Jimmy's Tea Ceremony | Sacramento Engagement & Wedding Photographer

The weekend before last, I got the pleasure of capturing Phan and Jimmy's engagement ceremony at her parent's house. The tea ceremony is a Vietnamese tradition where the groom and bride's families officially meet to formally greet each other. It is also the first time for the parents to formally acknowledge their daughter and son-in-law to-be.  Then tea is offered to the parents to show their respect. In Vietnamese, it is to say that they will be filial to their in-laws as they are to their own parents. It was such a joyful day filled with so many family and friends and of course, yummy good food! Here are the highlights:

The groom and his parents arrived with dowry, fruits, wine and a roasted pig.

The highlight of the ceremony happened when Jimmy tried to put the engagement ring on Phan's finger and it didn't fit. It got stuck in the middle and couldn't go in or come out.

End up he was putting on the wrong hand. Her right hand is slightly bigger than her left hand so that's why the ring was stuck. LOL..

It was such a struggling task that everyone clapped when the ring fits the bride's hand, (like Cinderella and the glass slipper.)

Then it's my turn to steal Phan & Jimmy away for a mini portrait session (in the neighbor's yard):

Here are pictures of some of her family members that were present:

Phan's grandparents were so cute. I asked that they showed some emotions, like holding hands. Grandma laughed so hard but she did it anyway.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. Check out my other work at www.twotwentyphotos.com. Email me at info@twotwentyphotos.com if you are also looking for an engagement or wedding photographer.

To conclude this post, let's toast to Phan and Jimmy for finding each other and having the courage to take this giant leap toward their happily ever after!

Until next time!  Have a great weekend!  ~xoxo Tra

  1. I feel weddings are incomplete without a good photographer now. It is important to hire a photographer who captures all the moments beautifully like this. My wedding is next month in an event space San Francisco and I hope my sister finds a good photographer till then. I will also share this post with her.
